The Batch Process

This section describes the batch process, including a detailed description of a batch process from beginning to end. It provides a general understanding of what's happening during the process, and why it happens. Individual features are not discussed in depth.

For an in-depth look at the features of PrePress AutoTools, see the Features, In-Depth and "Advanced" sections of this documentation.

What is Batch Processing?

In Computer-speak, performing a group of tasks all at once, while requiring little (or no) interaction from the user, is batch prcoessing. When a batch processing system is written correctly (flexibly), it's a great time saver because the computer can perform repetitive functions quickly and consistently.

PrePress AutoTools is a batch processing system. The task that it automates is the general handling of QuarkXPress files, and their output to proofs or PostScript files.

The 'Timeline' describes the sequence of events (each step) in a batch process with AutoTools and a collection of QuarkXPress files.
