PrePress AutoTools Documentation
Welcome to PrePress AutoToolsAs its name implies, PrePress AutoTools is software for a busy prepress environment. It's a batch processing system, letting your Macintosh handle your repetitive tasks for you. If producing PostScript files from QuarkXPress files is a big part of your job, AutoTools will make that job easier. If you've never worked with a batch processing system before, you're going to be very pleased with this new way of processing QuarkXPress documents! No longer will you need to check the colors or relink all of the images in every document, or fix other small-but-time-consuming problems with every job you work on. It can all be done automatically, and hands free. Even better: PrePress AutoTools is extremely extendible, and it's not hard at all. You can write your own custom extensions (called "Fitlers") in either AppleScript or UserTalk, or purchase pre-written Filters from Macrobyte Resources (or anyone else). These filters make it possible to extend AutoTools, to make it do just about anything you need done to your files.
AutoTools is easy to use. In fact, it was designed to be as easy to use as possible, without sacrificing
any power. It's entirely possible that you'll never need this documentation, as there are no 'hidden
talents'... every function is clearly marked and easy to access.
Frontier is a wonderful application that makes large, script-based applications like this one possible, but you'll be glad to know that you don't need to know or learn much of anything about Frontier to use PrePress AutoTools. |
