AutoTools Preferences

This section discusses the preference settings which are available in PrePress AutoTools, how to change them, and what' they're used for. This section is not a detailed explanation of the features in AutoTools, it only discusses how the preferences are used by those features.

The Prepress AutoTools preferences are accessed by choosing "Preferences..." from the Edit menu in AutoTools. This will open the "Preferences" window, which has three tabs, for each of the different Preference categories.

File Sort

The file sort preferences allow you to specify your preferred folder structure for jobs stored on your local disks or servers. This does not explain the full use of the File Sort function, which can be found in the chapter on Advanced Features.

Printing

These preferences are only here for your convenience. When you start a batch processing run that includes printing, the values you've entered in these preferences are used to preset the Printing window in AutoTools.

Trapping

The trapping preferences in AutoTools are the settings used if you choose to include Trapping in your batch processing. They are the same preferences available in QuarkXPress, and the values you enter in these preferences will replace the values in the XPress documents (this is, of course, a completely optional feature).
