Please note that we strongly recommend that if you are upgrading from a previous version, you should install AutoTools into a new frontier.root file (rather than "on top of" the old version).

Frontier 5 is required to run PrePress AutoTools. Frontier is a very powerful cross-platform scripting language (for Macintosh and Windows), produced by UserLand Software, Inc.. Best of all, Frontier is FREE! UserLand also provides extensive training materials (tutorials and other documentation) on their site.

If you don't want to learn to use Frontier, that's OK: you don't need to. You don't need to know anything about Frontier to run AutoTools or use any of its features. Frontier will run just fine in the background, and AutoTools was designed to take advantage of that.
