The Verbalist

What is a Verbalist, anyway?

The Verbalist suite is a replacement for the verb list that shipped with Frontier 4.2.3 for the Macintosh, intended for use with Frontier 5. The suite includes an outline of all the verbs in system.verbs.builtins and system.verbs.globals. Here's a screenshot of the outline, taken on a mac:

The scripts which generate the outline are included in the suite, so that you can generate your own outline any time you need to.

Version History

Version 1.1.3 was released on Sunday, May 17, 1998

The changes in this version:

  • Again, the verbalist has only been updated to include changes made since Frontier 5 was released.

The changes in version 1.1.2:

  • The only significant change is that the verb list has been updated to include all changes made since Frontier 5 was released.

The changes in version 1.1.1

  • Comment deleting is more sensible.
  • Correctly handles lists of addresses.
  • Fixed some bugs pointed out by various people. Big, obvious bugs that make me wonder where my head was, last time I released this.

Changes in version 1.1 (January 26, 1998)

  • The main script, verbalist.makeVerbList, now accepts two optional parameters which add the flexibility of generating an outline for ANY table in the root. See the readme, included in the suite, for more information.
  • Now handles scripts that do not have an eponymous handler
  • Now handles scripts with multiple-line eponymous handlers, such as the imageRef macro
  • Minor speed improvement

If you have any problems with this suite, such as errors or omissions, tell me about it.
